Publishing Insitutions for my
Music Magazine
Publishing is a big part of a band or artists income. There are many avaliable institutions that help produce and publise the songs. I found this website when borwsing the internet and it summerises music magazines genres and other markets in the media they incorporate.

This comapny publishes music magazines and many other media brands. I looked on their website and found some useful information: http://www.ipcmedia.com/
"IPC Media produces over 85 iconic media brands, with our print brands alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 44% of UK men – almost 27 million UK adults – while our online brands collectively reach 20 million users every month.IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio offers something for everyone, with a focus on three core audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket women."
This appealed to me as their print brands are their main part of the publishing company. Also how they target both male and female for their audience is good as they want to target the mass market.
Bauer
This is another very well know publishing company. There company is a worldwide publishing group that has produced magazines such as, Mojo and Kerrang! I also went onto their website to find out some more information: http://www.bauer.co.uk/
"H. Bauer is the largest privately owned publisher in Europe, publishing in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom. The Bauer Publishing Group has grown from its humble beginnings as a printing house into a worldwide publishing empire comprising 282 magazines in 15 countries with 6,600 employees worldwide and an annual turnover of 1.79 billion Euro."
I liked the sound of this publishing company as it is privately owned. The company has a worldwide publishing empire which produces magazines. The popular music magazine they have published focus on the music genre rock.
Looking at the avaliable publishing companies I would use International Publishing Comapny (ltd) as the adience the magazines tey produce target my audience and a large audience. I beleieve with this company their is a gap in their publications for my stlye of magazine.

Record Labels
For my music magazine my unique selling point is how it targets new and upcoming bands and artists. So i decided to do some researched into the recording labels that are avalibable and the types of roles their job includes.
There are four main record labels in the UK:
*Universal Muisc Group (UMG)
*Song BMG Music Entertainement
*EMi Group
*Warner Music Group
Sometimes these bigger record labels offer distributions to indie labels. This allows the indie artists to realse their songs to stores, so overal the gain more publicity and overal better sales on the album.
What is a record labels job?
* A company that manages such brands and trademarks
* Coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing and promotion.
* Enforcement of copyright protection of sound recordings and music videos
* Scouting for talent and development of new artists ("artists and repertoire" or A&R); and maintaining contracts with recording artists and their managers.
These are the two websites which have helped explain to the different jobs in the a recording label:-

Now i understand the key jobs that the record company plays it has helped me to include in my magazine the possibility ways they can promote their own labels. I want my magazine to attract the audience so the bands publicity increases and record labels will recognise the talent and potential in this band or artist. I also decided to research into how the money is paid in a record label. would it be the same with an indie artist?
This website link is to the virgin media website where there is an artical about where, who and how the money paid in the industry.

Contextulising the two music genres of my magazine:
-Features of the genre
-Where has the genre come from?
-Why has it been around so long?
Indie-
Many 'Indie' labels are part of bigger media companies-if the major label is more than 50% of your company you, you are not longer independent. The indie genre is said to have helped the development of the pop music genre. Increasingly the internet is making new methods of publication accessible to independent musicians. Services have been set up to distribute independent music over the internet with many different types of payment models. This often allows artists to reach a much wider audience than would normally be possible as a local band. Independent labels rely on "word of mouth" to expose their artists. This of course is to attract a distinct audience.
Pop-
This genre of music is usual commericial recorded music. The type of music usually targets a youth market. The songs are usuall based around love songs. Pop music has absorbed influences from most other forms of popular music, but as a genre is particularly associated with the rock and roll and later rock style.
Advertisements
A main part included in all magazines that are produced by these companies, is the advertisements from other brands. Advertisement is important way for companies to make money from publicising their products. their advert in magazines have to use many media techniques such as codes, conventions and mise-en-scene to attract an audience and make their product appealing.
In my magazine I would include adverts to break up my articals and help these compaines promote their products. i would have to make sure when choosing which products toadvertise they suit my target audience; teenagers. Also they would have to be attractive for both male and female as my magazine wants to a attract a greater mass of teenagers.
• AIDA = Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action. This is the four features of advertising that has to be included. To raise awareness, then stimulate interest which leads to the creation of desire and subsequently action. Most advertising strategies rely upon 2 main behavioural responses: raising awareness and stimulating interest.

This advert is for a the Halle Berry perfume. I believe if this was used in my music magazine it would attract my audience as for female teenagers its a perfume for them. For the male teenagers they would recognise this actress from the famous James Bond films and would be attracted her as she is wearing no clothes; titilation. The colour tones in this picture are all along the same theme; Browns and organge. The backdrop of the picture is a blurred. It looks like a pool or the sea, and the blurded effect adds to the temperature as it seem like it the shot is taken in a hot country. This would be appealing for my audience as its a destination they would want to go to.
This is another advert that could be found in my music magazine. Unlike the other advert this one take up a double page spread. Using two pages makes the product seem more significant and important. It also allows the company to use a bigger picture of their model, who is also a recognisable celebrity who has been in many films. You are proven by the picture that the makeup looks good on the model and are therefore persuaded to buy the product. The use of colours again in this advert are all along the same lines. The code of using a brighter lighting and tone, makes the piece look fresh and new; reflective of what the makeup can do for you. for my teenage market this advert would attract them as they would be into buying and trying out new makeup.
