Survey

To find out what music genres are the most
popular for my target audience; 16-19, i completed a survey which tallied my results.

From these results i found that for my target audience the two most popular music genres are Pop;10/30 and Indie; 10/30. This has helped me decide on the main music genres i should focus on in my magazine and also has helped me decide what music and style my band should have. I then decided to research into my two most popular music genres pop and indie:-

From these pictures i gathered that pop and indie includes lots of bright and bold colors. The style of what they wear is also young and trendy and for girls their outfits are appealing for boys. When i come to styling my band i will want to include these aspects to therefore create the right appealing style for my audience.

Researching these pictures also made me think about where i would want to take my pictures. The mis en scene is important for reflecting the music of the band and engaging the audience.

Some ideas:-

- White or colored background

- In the street/road

- Station

- Graffiti or brick wall

- City-building and lots of people

- Forest or fields

These pictures have also made me think about the camera angles that can use:-

Close-up shot- Only shows one subject and this is usually in great detail; for example someones face. The shot allows the audience to see the artists make-up and facial expressions.
Medium shot- Only shows half the subject; for example a person from the waist up. This shot allows the audience to read into the type of character the person is, through their clothes and body language.
Long shot- Is of the whole subject; so a person from head to toe. The shot contains more of the mis en scene and this give us impressions of the person in the subject.
High-angle shot- Is the positioned above the eye level. The shot looks down upon the subject and for an audience can reflect a weaker or helpless feeling.
Low-angle shot- Is when the camera is looking up at the subject. This shot can make the subject look important and powerful.
Oblique/canted shot- Is when the camera is tilted to create an imbalanced or quirky feeling.
