Deconstruction of a Music Magazine Front Cover

This music magazine is caled 'Blender' and this is the institution of the magazine. The masterhead of the magazine is very bold and prominent, as the letters are all in upper case. Also the title akes up the whole width of the cover. This is a typical convention of a pop music genre magazine.

The medium shot is of Kelly Clarkson and she is the central focus of the magazine. There is alot white in this front cover, with the bacground and her top being this colour. It makes the cover look clean and fresh. She is smiling and she looks youthful with her t-shirt and not over the top makeup.

The text is all used with the same font to show continuiety. As the background is white the black text is reversed out. Makes it easier to read and understand by an audience. A bolder font is used to highlight the artists/bands they talk about on the front cover. The use of certain words being in red, attracts the reader attention, this means that they are more likely to read the headings so will then want to tbuy the magazine. 'must-hear downloads' the use of this language attracts a younger audience and links in with the modern way of listen to music. The magazine uses both right and left collumns arragement to use of all of the space around the picture.

This music magazine is called 'NME' (new Musical Express) this name is the institution of the magazine. The name given to this magazine is sortened by abbreviating the word in to three letters. This make it seem young and modern.

The picture is of the band 'gossip'. The camera shot is a medium shot of the bad and this means you can see both their costume and body language-which are all codes for portraying their image. The central person is a woman, who is the lead singer, then there is the two men either side of her. The picture is layered ontop of the title and this adds a professional effect. The title is therefore covered so this also adds to how the magazine is popular that the whole title is not the main part, it more about the artist/bands. Their costumes are plain and basic, with the use of props, such as glasses. The bands tattoo's are on show and this reflects the rebellious nature of the magazine. The slogan after the name of their band also encorporates the young and daring teenagers 'Sex, Skins and...' The use of saying the tv programme 'skins' helps relate to the reader life and other media they come across everyday. 'standing in the way of control' this is a line from one of their singles and this links in well with both the text and the music the type of music they create. Then there is a slanted piece of text explaining in an exciting tone what the artical in the magazine will be about.

The text used on the front cover is bold and fits in with the clour scheme of using red, white and black. due to the lead singer beth ditto wearing black the text stands out and contrasts. The front cover also talks about not only artists but about an upcoming music festival 'V-festival' there is an advertisement in the right hand corner. This is perfect for magazine to attract their audience, as tey will want to know te line up and be part of one of the biggest music events.

Other pictures used are smaller and are to the left side of front cover. They all have a white boarder arounf then and they are not straight they are slanted and this gives an edge. Two of the other pictures are close up shots and these help us look at the facial expressions. In this magazine the facial expressions are code for having fun and being happy and positive.
